Answers to Common Questions
Can I surrender an animal to your rescue?
Centerville Pet Rescue is a foster based organization, and we are therefore limited in our ability to accept surrendered animals based on the availability of space and fosters in our volunteer network. Please contact us for updated availability. If we are able to take your animal, we ask for a surrender fee of $50 to help cover the costs of a veterinary exam, spay/neuter, vaccinations, etc.
All of your animals are cats, do you adopt other pets?
Centerville Pet Rescue focuses on cats, as they are the most in need. Thousands of cats are homeless in Central Pennsylvania. We do occasionally have other animals available. Please see our list of adoptable pets.
How long does it take to complete the adoption process?
Once your application is submitted, it takes about 48 business hours to process it and get you approved. We recommend that if you are interested in adopting from us, you complete an application in advance of your visit to our adoption center. Being pre-approved will allow you to take your new pet home the same day!
What happens if I adopt a pet and it doesn't work out?
We work very hard to make sure you and your new pet are a good match but understand there are situations where things just don't work out. We do ask that you allow time for your new pet to adapt to their new home and we will work with you to make this process a success. If, however, an adoption doesn't work out, we not only want the animal back we ask you to commit to returning them to us so we can find them another loving home. Please note however that adoption fees are non-refundable.
What is the adoption process?
Submit a no obligation Adoption Application (Print versions are available at our adoption center).
You will receive an email once your application is approved along with information on visiting or adoption center (typically, within 2 business days).
Visit and let us help you find your perfect match!
How do you use money from donations?
General donations (those not raised for a specific use) go to pay for the care for our animals and management of our adoption services. In our most recent year 90% of all revenue was used for these efforts, with approximately 2% spent on advertising and 8% on operating costs. Many organizations spend a significant amount of money on fundraising and facility expenses. Our location inside That Fish Place - That Pet Place is provided at no cost to our organization allowing us to use these precious resources on helping animals.
How long have you been helping animals?
Centerville Pet Rescue was organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2015. Our board members, volunteers and staff have decades of experience in animal welfare.
There is a stray dog/cat in my neighborhood can you help?
We do not provide services to assist with strays but do provide surrender intake services as space allows. Please see the question about accepting surrendered pets.
Do you help with animal cruelty cases?
Our organization does not enforce animal cruelty laws. If you are aware of an animal cruelty situation, please contact local law enforcement. We do take animals rescued by law enforcement when approached and as our resources allow.
Do you offer low-cost Veterinary services?
Centerville Pet Rescue does not currently offer discounted spay/neuter or most other Veterinary services. We do offer microchipping and nail trims. These services are provided on select days throughout the year. Visit our Events page for more information.
